A resurgent the Russian player secured his first title for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a difficult period, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - caused him falling of the top ten and ultimately separating with former mentor his previous coach.

Now training with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set win over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's initial championship after the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface after March of that year.

Success also signifies the Russian has won 21 championships at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my children together, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had caused observers to question if his skill to play at the highest level was over.

However the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play positively, reinforced by an better serve.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

Both players traded breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to push for a final set.

He defended 4 early-game break points in a competitive final set before the champion won the break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a rally at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a return after a lengthy match.
